A lot has been said for the topic of potty training your child. Different books will give you different tips and guide on how to potty train your child. But the big question is does it really work for you?
I am a mother of two. Niki, my daughter is 3 years old and almost 3 months and my son Jacob is 1 year old and 3 months. As I write this blog, me and my daughter Niki is currently undergoing a big change in her milestone. We are on the process of getting rid of her diapers for good. For the longest time, I am thinking and searching for the most effective way of teaching Niki how to get comfortable with the 'comfort room'. I searched and surfed different websites, read articles and books discussing the same topic.
Some people will tell you that at 3 years old, my daughter should be potty trained already. And sometimes, I am panicking because of the expectations of other people from Niki. Sometime ago, I tried teaching her to sit on the toilet bowl with her own Spong Bob soft seat but few days after she will refused to be out of her diapers again, so we go back to square one. Frustrating for me. My sister in law even bought her a pink duck potty chair but she will just use it as a car or horse when playing.
Now, again, I started to introduce again potty training. But this time, I think we will be successful. What do I learned from all this? That you should never ever forced your kid to potty train because the time will come that they will be ready and when this time comes, you should be able to notice. Your own kid will give you the sign that she/he is ready to use the potty chair. I started by taking her to share the bathroom with me while taking a bath. I explain to her everything I do in the bathroom. We even have the same 'loofa/net' to use for our body. Hers is smaller, a miniature of mine. When she was used to this routine already, I asked her one time while we are in the mall if she would like me to buy her a potty chair but this time it would really be a chair that really looks like a toilet seat and not the pink duckie that she was not able to associate it with. Niki chose a pink toilet seat with green cover accent.
This is a big change for Niki. Merely 2 months ago when we started to take the diaper out of her system and we are successful. Though she is not yet consistent in using her own toilet seat, she somehow manage to be out of the diaper even when we are out of the house. The problem I am focusing now is to make her poop in her toilet seat. She is still not used to doing that. But I am positive that soon enough we will overcome this challenge.

Lotion, Sun block -- Protection from Skin Cancer
Summer is here, the heat is intensifying as the day goes by. A lot of us are planning to have vacations, excursion or outings. Most of these activities will involved swimming either in the pool, sea, lake or river. All of these activities will expose us to sun whether we like it or not. The coldness of water will temporarily soothe our skin and body with the heat that we are feeling.
A lot of us already know that being exposed to the sun can lead to skin damage. But maybe only little of us know that whether we are exposed in the sun during childhood, teenage or adult life, it will still have effect in our skin than can lead to skin cancer or other skin diseases such as photo damaged skin. But wait, not only the sun can cause skin cancer especially during adulthood. It is said in a lot of books that UV rays can also damage the skin. This means that the lamps and lights that we used whether inside our household or in the office can greatly affect our skin. Maybe not today but in the future.
In our world today, cancer is not uncommon. People of all ages whether financially stable or not can be affected. Although skin cancer is more common to caucasian, fair skin Asian can be affected also. Though not all type of skin cancer metastasize and lead to death, it is still better if we would know some facts that can help us to prevent this from coming. After all, prevention is the best cure of all.
The big question is how to prevent skin cancer or other skin diseases. Skin cancer is one cancer that can easily be prevented. For one, not being expose to sun will help us prevent this. But putting on sunblock will be of really big help in the prevention of this. I , for one is a kind of person who is not so into lotion or sunblock. During my younger years, I always felt awkward and slimy when I apply lotion to my skin. I thought that those kind of stuff like lotion and sunblocks are for the vain in nature. I love the sun, I love the beach. I always go to the beach unprotected from the sun. Never had I imagine that these products will keep your skin healthy and protected. And these products will help prevent if not totally eradicate the disease itself.
Never did it come to my senses that I will be writing as much for lotions and sun blocks. Personally, I am not fanatic of these products. But we all have to know the importance of these products and how it can save a lot of people from having skin diseases or skin cancer. Lotion hydrates the skin. Like our body which is basically composed of 70% water, our skin also needs hydration. We have to intake 8-10 glasses of water per day to keep us away from dehydration. Our skin also lost their moisture everytime we take a bath and use heavily perfumed soap. That is why we need lotion or moisturizer. Sun block as the name entails blocks the sun so when we apply this to our face, it help blocks the UV rays the sun emit to prevent photo-damaged that creates older looking skin. Im sure any woman wouldnt like that.
So, what are the things we can do to keep not just our body healty but our skin also. First, it is advisable to use non-perfumed soap (mild soap), it could be in a form of bar or liquid soap. I personally prefer liquid soap. It already moisturizes the skin. Second, you can use oil after taking a bath or lotion. Oil feels much better but for those who are used to lotion, it can do as well.
At night, you can apply petroleum for those who have heavily dry skin. And for the calloused hands and soles, petroleum is the best way to hydrate it and moisturize it. Putting petroleum at bed time then wearing socks will help do the trick.
